plane clothes

I love airports. Even if I have to hang out there for a few hours I generally don’t mind it because it’s the start of something fun. It’s an excuse to eat McDonald’s, people watch and watch movies on my laptop. All good stuff.

But the part about traveling I still haven’t figured out is what to wear on the plane. I’ve done jeans/flip flops/hoodies. I’ve done long comfy dresses, I’ve done sweatpants and tshirts, I’ve done skirts/sandals/sweaters…

and it all ends up the same. I get off the plane looking like a used dish rag.

Even if I make a pit stop in the ladies’ before I leave the airport I still can’t seem to get it together after a 12 hour flight. And yet somehow I’m always on a plane full of people (men and women) who look like they’re about to be in a commercial for ice cold milk or Ivory soap or something.

Don’t even get me started on what to pack…

So what do you wear when you fly?

be still my pre-teen heart

The other night I couldn’t sleep so I was browsing iTunes looking for something to spend my gift card on when I discovered My So Called Life were available. I blame the lack of sleep but I couldn’t resist!

So I give you the best moment ever. I love this song by Buffalo Tom too…

Rockstar – Ballerina – Cop

I’ve been on a packing/tossing/organizing kick lately and I came across my first grade journal. Such a treasure! If my scanner wasn’t being so disagreeable I’d scan a few pages for you.

I had quite an array of intrests…

I wrote about my cats: Cinderella and Tequila.

I wrote about the time my mom made cookies and forgot the sugar. I can still remember thinking this was the most hilarious thing EVER.

I wrote about my imaginary trip to Disneyland.

I wrote that when I grew up I was going to be a “rockstar, cop and ballerina”. I guess even back then I was all about balance.

I wrote about my “husband” and where that we were going to live in a “pink house with lots of good stuff”.

It was fun to look back through the pages written in big colorful crayon letters. Right now being a rockstar/ballerina/cop sounds like a lot of work though so I’m going to take a nap.

the rohde foundation

Back in January I shared something special with you. The fact that it is now June makes me feel like a terrible slacker. But my feelings of laziness aside I am excited to share more with you about The Jesse Rohde Foundation.

First check out their fantastic new website. Isn’t it great? I’m so proud and in awe of Jesse’s determination to improve the lives of others, wherever in the world they may be.

From the Foundation’s website:

Dr. Rohde’s vision for The Rohde Foundation grew out of his belief that an effective way to stop preventable disease in rural communities was to empower and grow the local medical work force. In 2009, the Oworobong Clinic in rural Ghana opened with over 400 patients lining up to be seen. As rural facilities continue to be opened, each of these clinics will provide health care access to over 50,000 people who previously were left on the outskirts of health care catchment areas.

Please spread the word and help if you can.

new week resolutions

If you follow me on Twitter then you already know that the last week was not my favorite. It was hard. I mean it was make-you-want-to-crawl-under-your-bed-and-stay-there hard. It was fake-your-own-death-and-leave-the-country-hard.

But this morning I’m facing the new week with a positive outlook. I will not hide under my bed. I will not fake my own death and leave the country. I will not complain about my job. I’ll be a big girl and remind myself that I have a LOT of good things going on and a lot of be grateful for.

Here’s to a good week!

whatever comes

“Whatever comes,” she said, “cannot alter one thing. If I am a princess in rags and tatters, I can be a princess inside. It would be easy to be a princess if I were dressed in cloth of gold, but it is a great deal more of a triumph to be one all the time when no one knows it.”

Frances Hodgson Burnett (A Little Princess)

I just recently read A Little Princess. I’ve seen the movie but had never read the book. I actually have a list of children’s books I want to read/reread. Also on the list are Peter Pan, The Little Prince, The Secret Garden, and Anne of Green Gables. Now I just need a few more hours in the day.

What are you reading? Probably not kids’ books right?

save Jake… please!

The Apron Campaign

My friend Anna’s dog, Jake, has cancer and the treatment, as you can imagine, is not cheap. As a single girl with a loving little pup of my own I can completely understand how hard it would be to lose your best (dog) friend.

This must not happen.

So please, head on over here and read all about Jake and pick up a cute little apron. Anna is quite the seamstress so you’re really scoring an awesome apron in the print of your choice.

I mean, come on. Look at that sweet little pup face.

today I remembered I have a blog

I swear as soon as all of my Paris plans are finalized I will get my life back. I’m trying to cram so much into 8 days I’m going to need a LONG nap when I get back. Until then some little letters.

Dear Summertime,
So nice to see you again.

Dear Airlines of the World,
You make my life complicated.

Dear France,
I can’t wait to see you again.

Dear my uncle’s jacuzzi,
SO glad you’re working again!

Dear Eggs Benedict,
I’ve been craving you.

Dear Readers,
If you have any suggestions of what to do/see/eat in Paris I would LOVE your help.

I’ve seen this around the web lately but somehow it sweetly ended up in my email inbox.
I think we should all read this every morning.
Deal?
