So on my list of 101 in 1001 I have clearly stated that I won’t buy any more books until I read all of the ones I already have. But I’m just going to fess up here and now that it’s never going to happen. I’m not made of stone people. And I did get a gift card to Borders for my birthday. What was I supposed to do? Buy a calender?? It’s May people! Okay so they have other stuff but I wanted books. Lots and lots of books.

I bought:

“Playing With the Grownups” Sophie Dahl
“How Green Was My Valley” Richard Llewellyn
“BFG” Roald Dahl
(because it was cheap, because I hadn’t read it since I was a wee child and because I bought Sophie Dahl’s book… I don’t know why I felt the need to justify that one.. haha)
“Peter Pan” JM Barrie
(because I was already in the kids section and had never read it)

I think I have blogger’s block.

I have some pictures I took in Utah that I want to post but my laptop still hasn’t been repaired and I am just too lazy to reinstall the software on another computer. I could go to Rite-Aide and put the pictures on a disk but that requires way more effort and actual money. So they will sit in my camera awhile longer.

The most exciting thing of late is that I am buying a puppy. Elyse’s dog Roxy had two puppies and I am getting one. I am beyond excited.

First, I have to say that I do have a dog already. Her name is Obie and she’s a German Shepard, Rotweiller, Husky mix… not a small dog. She’s an “outside” dog and just turned 13 years old. I love Obie. She’s sweet and goofy and and gentle and when she’s being extra cute we call her “Obie my love.” She’s just a really great dog. I say this for 2 reasons. #1- It’s true. #2- I feel a teensy bit guilty getting another dog. I’m not replacing her and there are lots of people in the world with more than one pet. Right? Right.

With that said, I am very excited to have an little “inside” dog. She’s a black and white Shih Tzu and is pretty much the cutest thing ever. When Elyse and I were roommates Roxy lived with us for a little while and I loved it. I was always a little bit of an animals-belong-outside kind of girl. I never thought I’d love having an “indoor” pet so much.

The other thing is that I move a lot. A lot. So Obie has always lived at my mom’s house since she wasn’t exactly “portable”. It wasn’t something I planned but here’s the way it’s gone since high school:

96-97: Santa Barbara
97-98: London
98-99: Santa Barbara
99-01: Utah
01-02: Santa Barbara
02-04: Minnesota
04-05: Utah
05-06: London
06-07: Utah
07-now: Santa Barbara

It sort of makes me cringe but at the same time, I’ve enjoyed every place I’ve lived. And moving sort of gets addicting and it’s really hard to break the cycle. But do I even need to break the cycle? That is yet to be determined. But back to the puppy thing. It’s kind of a big deal. This may sound silly but let me just share one little story.

A year ago (well maybe 2 actually) I wanted to buy this cute “oyster” chair from Peir 1. I’ve since learned that the real name for the chair is a papasan chair but I still like oyster chair better. Because then, as Billie says, I can sit in it and be the pearl. My gosh I ramble. So anyway I really wanted this chair and it wasn’t really expensive but it took my forever to decide because it was big and all I could think was “If I move again there’s no way this is fitting in my car.” That was all I could think about and it really did take me a while to actually decide to buy it. And even as we were loading into the back of Chelsea’s truck I was having a mini panic attack about it. But then I got it home and and I loved it. The end of that story is that I did end up moving several months later and brought it with me and I feel very good about it.

So now that I am able to commit to home decor I am ready to commit to a living being. And even if I do move a little (or a lot) she’s small and she can come too!

I think I’m getting her in June and I can hardly wait. All anyone at work has heard me talk about is puppies and puppy names. And there may even be a paper chain hanging off of my desk.

Thanks Elyse! (and Roxy)

And at the very top of my list of things that makes me happy?

If you’re reading this then there’s probably a good reason why I like you. My life has always been made a litter brighter by dear friends.

“The greatest happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved — loved for ourselves, or rather, loved in spite of ourselves.”
Victor Hugo quotes

Oh and of course I’m very happy to share a birthday with Fish! I don’t think there’s anyone I’d rather share a birthday with! Fish is pretty much the world’s best dog. Every time I visit Chelsea I try to talk her into a move to California but she just looks at me and rolls her eyes. I think one time she may have flipped me off. Other than that she’s the greatest!

HAPPY BiRTHDAY FISHIE POO!

HAPPY BiRTHDAY FISHIE POO!

…continuing the countdown of happiness (lots at once because well… just cause)

2.Friendly people who smile make me happy.

People who will smile and say hi when you pass on the street. People who say say “bless you” to someone they don’t know when they sneeze. People who ask how you are and then wait for the answer. People who wave thanks when you let them into your lane. People who will let you into their lane. Little kids that smile and wave out of the back of cars. People who make me laugh. (really, it’s not hard to do) People who smile back.

3.Shopping makes me happy.

I was trying to avoid putting “shopping” on my list but I can’t deny it. I enjoy it! I’ve been really good about showing self control lately but I will definitely being doing some post-birthday shopping. Wanna see?

for those that care… bag = anthro, shoes = freepeople, earrings = urbanoutfitters, perfume = chloe

(this is turning into more of a wish list than an actual “going to buy it” list)

And when I’m really, really rich (and can justify spending more than rent on a handbag):

4.Ice cream makes me happy.

It’s icy, it’s creamy… what more could you ask for? Especially since it’s finally ice-cream eating weather. Well, who am I kidding? All weather is ice cream appropriate.

5. Flip flops make me happy.

The last few days have been in the upper 80’s and my feet are so happy. I think I have claustrophobic toes.
