“If you define cowardice as running away at the first sign of danger, screaming and tripping and begging for mercy, then yes, Mr. Brave man, I guess I’m a coward.”

So…. I got my wisdom teeth out yesterday. Well, it turns out it was just a wisdom tooth. But I spent this whole week being freaked out by the prospect of getting it out. In my defense I’ve never had any kind of surgery or anything. And after a week of listening to people (mean, mean people) tell me their horror stories about getting 7 shots of novacaine and their gums sliced into and how it hurt so bad they dislocated their dental assistant’s pinky finger, I could not be consoled. I don’t say this with pride but I was on the verge of tears the whole way there and while I sat in the waiting room, my hands shaking in my lap. Pathetic, I know.

But my dentist was amazing, a saint, an angel even. He’s got wings baby. His brother is my usual dentist and he is always nice. And their dad is my home teacher… I reminded him of that before he started in case it made a difference… he just laughed. The whole thing took about 10 minutes and I literally felt nothing. Nothing! It was probably my easiest trip to the detist ever. And everyone in the office was super nice: the rececptionist, the assistant… everytone! I don’t know why any of this really matters… let’s just blame it on the vicodin. Mmmm vicodin. Just kidding. But I am a huge fan of La Cumbre Dental. Love them!

Of course today I’m all sore and puffy but I can deal with that. Okay that is enough rambling for one post…

There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening
That is translated through you into action,
And because there is only one of you in all time,
This expression is unique.
If you block it,
It will never exist through any other medium
And be lost.
The world will never have it.
It is not your business to determine how good it is,
Nor how valuable it is,
Nor how it compares with other expressions.
It is your business to keep it yours, clearly and directly,
To keep the channel open.
You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work.
You have to keep open and aware
Directly to the urges that motivate you.
Keep the channel open.
No artist is pleased.
There is no satisfaction whatever at any time.
There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction,
A blessed unrest that keeps us marching
And makes us more alive than others.
– Martha Graham from a letter to Agnes de Mille –
