fire update

Sorry guys, I’ve had a one track mind this afternoon. Almost 14,000 people have been evacuated as of this afternoon, including several good friends. The wind is picking up right now and the ominous cloud of smoke is growing. It’s been burning since the 5th and is still 0% contained. 0% after a few days is not good obviously. Can you please send some positive thought/prayers/something this way?

I like that the little goat is smiling as he is being evacuated.

jesusita fire

That’s right. The name of the fire raging through the Santa Barbara mountains is “little Jesus”. Does anyone else think this is a little odd?

I always feel bad taking photos of something like this because it feels like you’re taking pictures of a car accident or something. It just seems wrong. But at the same time it’s A pretty unbelievable sight. My heart goes out to those who’ve lost homes and the three firemen that were injured last night.

baggu

I feel so proud of myself. I used my Baggu today! I have to say I felt like a darn fool because I remembered them just after the kid started putting my stuff in plastic bags and then he had to re-bag it. But my two Baggus saved probably 3 or 4 little plastic ones. My favorite thing about these is that they fold up teeny tiny and fit in your purse. That is really the key for me. I have several other reusable bags that I usually forget in my car/at home. But these are great because you fold them up and pop them back in your purse. I feel greener already!

Mankind Mag

All I can say is thank goodness for people who inspire others in any way. What a gift. Design for Mankind inspires me every single day. Thank you Erin!

do something pretty
make something pretty
call someone pretty

deal?

If you’ve never read Mankind Mag I think you should start. Like right now. This month is the Pretty Issue and believe me it is chock full of pretty.

Here is a little excerpt from Erin’s letter to the editor:

There is so much beauty in this world. There really is. It is my hope that we can see the pretty things around us amidst the ugly. I feel so blessed to live in a land of opportunity. Of spirit. Of courage, hope and integrity.
I can only wish that you feel the same.
And although this may be a tiny independent art/design magazine, I speak from my heart when I write that it is my wish to open our eyes. I want to focus on the beauty that our world has to offer…

Love always,
Your editor,
Erin E. Loechner

apples

“Girls are like apples on trees. The best ones are at the top of the tree. The boys don’t want to reach for the good ones, because the are afraid of falling and getting hurt. Instead, they just get the rotten apples from the ground that aren’t as good, but easy. So the apples at the top think something is wrong with them, when in reality they’re amazing. They just have to wait for the right boy to come along. The one who’s brave enough to climb all the way to the top of the tree.”

I’m not sure where i saw this quote but i thought it was sweet.

i shopped

… but it was my birthday so it’s okay.

I saw these two necklaces in the May JCrew catalog and that was it. I’m not usually much of a jewelry person but I loved the magnolia shape of the first one and then second one is pretty simple and pretty and looks cute with the first one like in the last photo.
